Peep Sooman from real estate agency Pindi Kinnisvara told business daily Äripäev that Tallinn is not so big that going to work from one side of the city to the other would be too difficult. This means that people mostly do not move within the city because of the location of their job.

Most of the people moving to Tallinn from other areas prefer to rent apartments, not buy them at first. One of the reasons why Estonian workers prefer renting is the cost of real estate – buying an apartment in Tallinn is more expensive than in some smaller towns. According to Sooman, most of the people who have moved to Tallinn from other areas, decide to buy real estate when they are already settled and find that they are competitive in their field of work.

During the last year 5,200 people have moved to Tallinn, in the last 5 years the number is 33,000. The main reason of moving to Tallinn is work.
